The day finally came – The debut live Melbourne set for Glen ‘Electribe’ Wallis, aka Holotropik as part of the OzGanic music fest in Melbourne. Sunday night at Revolver Upstairs, not exactly the best conditions to win the crowd over, but Holotropik isn’t your average Techno act. For one thing, this guy plays 100% live. Armed with the small but mighty Korg Electribes, a mixer, and the Kaoss Pad, Holotropik was ready to fire out some raw juicy beats.
My first exposure to the Korg Electribes happened 3 years ago when I went into a music store looking for an MC-303/505. I had exhausted myself using Rebirth 'till all hours of the night and had enough cash to outlay and purchase, what I thought, would be the closest thing equivalent to Rebirth in 'reality'.
Through coincidence or fate I have become aware of an almost continuous lineage of Raving throughout mans' history. Perhaps this is a reminder to some or perhaps you never realised the complete history of Raves. Most are aware of the general culture of Raves and the guidelines for Rave etiquette, but, not many would be aware of the tradition that accompanies these values.
The Next Wave.
The journey continues as a new wave of technology and mixing techniques bursts onto the scene which provides musical creativity in a live sense that was never before possible. The next wave is about to break!
